PHL Celebrates Black History Month with New Exhibition
PHILADELPHIA, PA – In celebration of Black History Month, Philadelphia International Airport (PHL)
has installed a new art exhibition honoring 100 African-American history makers of the 20
th
century
who have roots in the Philadelphia area.
On display now until July in the E-F Bridge on the secured side, the exhibition is presented in
partnership with the African American Museum in Philadelphia (AAMP), and features photographs of
men and women who have dedicated their lives to a variety of disciplines, including the arts, athletics,
civil rights, politics, religion, and scholarship.
“Philadelphia is a diverse city with a rich African-American history,” said Airport CEO Chellie
Cameron. “Singer Pearl Bailey, author and activist Alain Locke, spiritual leader Father Divine, poet
Sonia Sanchez, playwright Charles Fuller—all are connected to the Philadelphia region in some way.
It is with great enthusiasm that PHL honors these and many other important African Americans and
their accomplishments with this new exhibition.”
