CCW Eligibility and Training
At a Glance

Eligibility Requirements:
1. Must be 21 years old.
2. Be of good moral character
3. You will not be issued a Concealed Weapons Permit if you have any of the following disqualifying
items (list is not comprehensive):
a. Convicted of any felony.
b. Convicted of any crime of violence or use of a weapon.
c. Convicted of any narcotic offense.
d. Addicted to any narcotic.
e. History of emotional problems.
f. Convicted of acts of moral turpitude.
The Sheriff reserves the right to deny issuance or revoke CCW at any time if it is in the best
interest of public safety.

Training Course
California Penal Code § 26165 in part requires new applicants take a course that shall
not exceed 16 hours. BCSO has further set the course requirements at a minimum of 8
(eight) hours.

Firearms Qualification:
a. The Standard Qualification course is 10 rounds fired at a Standard
or equivalent of a B‐27 full‐size target from a distance of 7 yards. All
rounds must start from thelow ready” position.
b. Successful qualification will be a total of 8 rounds out of 10 inside
the “9 ring,” or 80%.
c. Qualification is conducted with the gun(s) the applicant desires to
carry on his or her CCW Permit. Guns are recorded by make, caliber,
and serial number.
d. A written examination consisting of 25 questions will be taken. A
minimum passing score will be 25. Students will receive
remediation on questions missed.
