Ohio Court Backlog Reduction Program Grant Summaries
In 2022, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine launched the Ohio Court Backlog Reduction program to
help local courts process increasing numbers of court cases. The list below summarizes the
awards. This list was compiled by the Ohio Department of Public Safety. Members of the media

Ashtabula
The Ashtabula County Juvenile/Probate Court will receive $309,623.57 to hire a deputy
clerk and law clerk and to buy equipment.
Athens
The Athens County Municipal Court will receive $155,633.28 to hire a security officer.
Butler
The Butler County Common Pleas Court will receive $183,783.60 to hire an investigator
and a file room clerk.
The Butler County Domestic Relations Court will receive $425,000 to hire a
magistrate/mediator and a staff attorney.
The Hamilton Municipal Court (Butler County) will receive $318,273.35 to upgrade its
case management system.
Champaign
The Champaign County Family Court will receive $80,043.60 to implement an online
case document imaging system.
Crawford
The Crawford County Municipal Court will receive $71,199.88 to implement the Ohio
Community Supervision System case management tool and to fund a traffic clerk and a
probation clerk.
Cuyahoga
The Cleveland Heights Municipal Court (Cuyahoga County) will receive $72,249 to
upgrade its case management system.
The Cleveland Municipal Court (Cuyahoga County) will receive $425,000 to hire pretrial
services staff and/or magistrates.
The Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court will receive $400,000 for a new case management
system.
The Lakewood Municipal Court (Cuyahoga County) will receive $425,000 to hire staff
that could include an IT project manager, two part-time law clerks, and a public defender.
The Shaker Heights Municipal Court (Cuyahoga County) will receive $169,093.37 to
hire a probation officer.
Delaware
The Delaware Municipal Court (Delaware County) will receive $26,780 to implement a
text messaging service.
Erie
The Huron Municipal Court (Erie County) will receive $36,200.40 to hire a deputy clerk.
Fairfield
The Fairfield County Common Pleas Court will receive $147,426.47 to hire a probation
support specialist, to implement electronic notifications, and to perform mental health and
substance use disorder assessments for in lieu of conviction cases.
The Fairfield County Domestic Relations Court will receive $46,800 to increase the use
of contract mediators.
Franklin
The Franklin County Municipal Court will receive $425,000 to expand pretrial services
staff and/or to increase the use of contract interpreters.
Gallia
The Gallia County Probate/Juvenile Court will receive $63,416 to upgrade its case
management system by implementing a text messaging service and buying new hardware.
Geauga
The Geauga County Common Pleas Court will receive $5,000 to implement a text
messaging service.
Greene
The Fairborn Municipal Court (Greene County) will receive $21,860.40 to hire a paid
intern to help with the warrant backlog.
The Greene County Common Pleas Court will receive $341,280 to add video to
courtrooms and to update its case management systems to increase the efficiency of court
case processing.
The Greene County Domestic Relations Court will receive $46,327.50 to hire a domestic
violence coordinator.
Hamilton
The Hamilton County Common Pleas Court will receive $425,000 to implement
initiatives that could include hiring two bailiffs, updating courtroom technology, or
contracting with forensic psychologists.
The Hamilton County Juvenile Court will receive $253,885.14 to hire a clerk for pretrial
services and to hire an intervention specialist for pre-sentencing/disposition services.
Hocking
The Hocking County Municipal Court will receive $53,615.46 to use GPS tracking in lieu
of jail and to provide equipment for a new risk assessment unit.
Jackson
The Jackson County Municipal Court will receive $63,304.80 to hire a probation officer.
Lake
The Lake County Domestic Relations Court will receive $344,418.21 to rehire a law clerk
position and to hire a new magistrate.
Lawrence
The Lawrence County Bureau of Community Corrections will receive $425,000 to
implement initiatives that could include hiring pretrial services officers, increasing the use of
GPS equipment, implementing kiosks, or upgrading its case management system to increase
its efficiency.
Licking
The Licking County Domestic Relations Court will receive $12,070.41 to buy
audio/visual equipment for the courtroom.
The Licking County Probate/Juvenile Court will receive $91,755.97 to hire a full-time
probate clerk.
Logan
The Logan County Common Pleas Court will receive $425,000 to upgrade its case
management system.
Lorain
The Lorain County Domestic Relations Court will receive $425,000 to implement
initiatives that could include hiring a director of court services and a program/data analyst,
contracting with Ohio Legal Help, or upgrading its case management system to increase the
efficiency of court case processing.
The Lorain Municipal Court (Lorain County) will receive $37,460 to integrate its case
management system with the jail system.
Mahoning
The Struthers Municipal Court (Mahoning County) will receive $131,479 to hire a full-
time clerk and a part-time clerk.
The Youngstown Municipal Court (Mahoning County) will receive $87,984 to hire a
full-time pretrial services staff member.
Marion
The Marion County Common Pleas Court will receive $425,000 to hire one pretrial
services officer and to expand its use of GPS.
Medina
The Medina County Probate/Juvenile Court will receive $16,250 to support the
implementation of a new case management system.
Montgomery
The Montgomery County Common Pleas Court will receive $143,515.05 to implement an
automated docket system.
The Montgomery County Juvenile Court will receive $31,922.82 to implement a kiosk
check-in system.
Morrow
The Morrow County Common Pleas Court will receive $160,802.24 to hire legal assistants
for the judges and to implement the use of GPS.
Ottawa
The Ottawa County Common Pleas Court will receive $202,200 to hire a court reporter,
to implement a self-represented litigants clinic, and to implement the use of GPS.
Perry
The Perry County Juvenile/Probate Court will receive $30,000 to contract with an
attorney/mediator for self-represented litigant help.
Portage
The Portage County Common Pleas Court will receive $27,074 to implement a kiosk
check-in system.
Ross
The Ross County Common Pleas Court will receive $153,609.48 to hire a pretrial case
manager.
Scioto
The Scioto County Adult Probation Department will receive $413,388.60 to hire a
pretrial services officer and a diversion officer.
Summit
The Akron Municipal Court (Summit County) will receive $425,000 to hire a mediator, a
project manager, and a technical analyst.
The Summit County Common Pleas Court will receive $425,000 to hire a
magistrate/mediator and a bailiff.
Union
The Union County Probate/Juvenile Court will receive $93,600 to hire two
probation/diversion officers.
Vinton
The Vinton County Court will receive $11,970.60 to hire a deputy clerk.
Washington
The Marietta Municipal Court (Washington County) will receive $275,217.31 to hire a
deputy bailiff and a pretrial services/diversion probation officer.
Williams
The Williams County Juvenile Court will receive $376,556.25 to hire two deputy clerks
and one truancy/diversion officer.
