SELECTION CRITERIA & REQUIREMENTS
Thank you for your interest in applying for membership in the Leadership Skills Development class for the
school year 2022-2023 Olympic Heights’ Student Government exists to promote school spirit, student
engagement, participation, service, leadership, personal growth and representative democracy. By applying,
you are pledging yourself to furthering this mission. You are required to uphold Olympic Heights standards
both in class, out of class and online!
You agree to hold yourself to exemplary ethical and moral standards. Participation in Student
Government (henceforth referred to as SGA) and Leadership Skills Development is considered a
“privileged” class and position.
It is also considered an elective credit. You will be held to the standards, and agree to accept the
consequences, outlined in the Parent/Student Handbook.
You understand that your selection will require you to enroll in the Leadership Skills Development class
which is 5
th
period.
It is highly recommended that you have and maintain a GPA of at least 3.0 prior to and throughout your
tenure in SGA.
You agree to abide by the Constitution of the Olympic Heights Community High School SGA.
You understand that you must not have any disciplinary referrals in the current school year and that any
disciplinary referrals you receive after your selection may result in your removal from the class.
Previous selection for the Leadership Skills Development class or election to office in prior years is no
guarantee of selection for subsequent years.
Student Council activities can only be successful with the hard work of dedicated members. Its not
easy, but it will be fun and rewarding.
Students will submit applications by the due date for next years class. Applications will be screened
prior to selection for eligibility.
All members of the Leadership class are expected to report to school the week prior to the official start
of the school year, before the rest of the student body, to prepare for the start of school, as scheduled
by your advisor.
Additionally, we may meet occasionally during summer vacation.
SGA does take up a lot of time but has down time in between big events. You must be willing to at
times give up free time or be flexible (like lunches, after school, before school and weekends) as
necessary to assist, though this does not happen often.
You are expected to plan and work on SGA events, even during times when you would rather eat lunch
with your friends or go home immediately after school. By becoming part of this organization, you are
volunteering to work so that your peers and you can have fun.
Being a leader sometimes means doing what is RIGHT, even if it is not POPULAR. You must be
comfortable getting up before your peers and telling them what they may not want to hear. For
example, the Student Council will sponsor programs to encourage students to make responsible
choices.
You must be honestly and credibly able to get up in front of your peers and hold yourself up as an
example of responsible physical, moral, and legal behavior.
Below please provide any additional information that will help decide on your eligibility and potential position
within the SGA Leadership Skills Development Class:
