Events Industry Council Recognises Resorts World Sentosa for
Achievement of Sustainable Event Standards Certification
- Singapore-based venue reaches Platinum Level of global standards for environmental
and social responsibility -
The Events Industry Council (EIC) is pleased to announce that Resorts World Sentosa (RWS),
Asia’s premium lifestyle destination resort, is the first organisation in the world to achieve the
Platinum Level certification under the latest 2022 Sustainable Events Standards (Venue) released
in June 2022.
The EIC Sustainable Event Standards (SES) are specific standards for environmental and social
responsibility within the events industry. Created by the EIC Sustainability and Social Impact
Committee in partnership with industry professionals and leading sustainability practitioners, the
requirements provide event planners and suppliers with prescriptive actions for producing and
delivering sustainable events. The standard specifies performance criteria in the areas of
organisational management, marketing, communications and engagement, climate action, water
management, materials and circularity, supply chain management, diversity, equity and inclusion,
accessibility, and social impact. The Venue standard is one of eight comprehensive standards for
environmentally sustainable events.
RWS MICE & Corporate Sales Assistant Vice President Adeline Lim said, “The MICE industry
has great potential in addressing environmental issues and in making a positive impact on society.
With the sector set to have a strong recovery, this is an opportunity to not only entrench our
sustainability practices, but to also communicate to our delegates, guests and visitors that RWS
is committed to environmentally and socially responsible practices needed to support long-term
sustainability in our industry. We are indeed honoured to be the first in the world to be certified
according to EIC 2022 Sustainable Events Standards platinum level, it validates this commitment
and energises us to take our efforts to the next level.”
Amy Calvert, EIC CEO, added, "The Events Industry Council congratulates Resorts World
Sentosa on their Platinum Level Certification. This demonstrates a strong commitment to the
environmental, regenerative and socially responsible practices that are needed to accelerate
impact and support our sector now and into the future."
BPA iCompli Sustainability, a division of BPA Worldwide, a nonprofit international auditing
organisation headquartered in Shelton, CT USA, performed the independent third-party
certification of Resorts World Sentosa’s compliance with the Venue. "The certification to the event
sustainability standards created by EIC, and now adopted by the Resorts World Sentosa,
continues our long-standing commitment to promote innovation, achievement and transparency
in the sustainability journey for the event industry's stakeholders, said Richard Murphy, President
and CEO of BPA Worldwide.
