TODAY’S GAME
The United States faces Canada today at HARBORCENT-
ER (capacity: 1,800) in the gold-medal game of the 2015
International Paralympic Committee Ice Sledge Hockey
World Championships. Team USA has won all four meet-
ings against Canada this season, outscoring them 9-1, in-
cluding three shutouts. Both teams enter the game with
a perfect 4-0-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) tournament record.
The U.S. has allowed just one goal in four games while
Canada has conceded two. In the United States, today’s
game will be streamed live on NBC Sports Live Extra and
televised live nationally on NBC Sports Network.
USA VS. CANADA
- In the last ten meetings, Team USA has posted a 7-0-
0-3 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record against Canada, outscoring
them 17-3 and shutting them out four times in that span.
- In world championship play, the two teams last met in
the gold-medal game of the 2013 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey
World Championships, which Canada won, 1-0. Since the
loss, the U.S. has won seven straight games against Canada.
- In March, the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team hosted
Canada in Indian Trail, North Carolina, for the traditional
three-game series. Led by two shutouts from goaltender

HOW THEY GOT HERE
Team USA defeated Russia (6-1), Germany (7-0), and It-
aly (7-0) to claim the top spot in Group B before shutting
outNorway,6-0,intheseminaltoreachthegold-medal
game.CanadanishedrstinGroupAplaybydefeating
Japan (17-0), Norway (5-0), and Czech Republic (2-0), for
a seminal matchup against Russia, who they defeated,
3-2. This is just the second time they are meeting in the
tournament’s gold-medal game.
GOLD STANDARD
The U.S. National Sled Hockey Team is playing in the
gold-medalgameforthefourthconsecutivetimeandfth
time overall in tournament history. The U.S. has a pair of
gold (2009, 2012) and silver (2004, 2013) medals, in ad-
dition to one bronze medal (2008). Today’s game marks
the seventh straight major international tournament in
which the U.S. has reached the championship game. Over
the last six events, Team USA has claimed the event’s
top prize four times, including the 2012 IPC Ice Sledge
Hockey World Championships in Hamar, Norway; the
2012 World Sled Hockey Challenge in Calgary, Alberta;
the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia; and
the 2015 World Sled Hockey Challenge in Leduc, Alberta.

CASH MONEY
Goaltender Steve Cash will start in goal for the U.S. On
the season, he is 11-1-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) with a 0.49
GAA, 0.95 SV%, and seven shutouts in 460 minutes of
play. Between the Paralympic Winter Games and IPC Ice
Sledge Hockey World Championships, this is Cash’s sixth
straight gold-medal game for the U.S.

LAST TEN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES
In the last 10 games in world championship play, the U.S.
holds a 9-0-0-1 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record, outscoring their
opponents 50-4. Their lone loss occurred in the 2013 gold-
medal game when Canada prevented the U.S. from claim-
ing its third consecutive World Championship title. Team
USA has claimed six shutouts and not allowed more than
one goal in a single game in that span.

With 10 points in the tournament, Adam Page tied former
Team USA player Alexi Salamone for most points by a
U.S. player in a single world championship. His 18 career

BUFFALO BILLS WELCOMED TEAM USA
With no tournament games on Tuesday (April 28, the U.S.
National Sled Hockey Team visited the Buffalo Bills of the
National Football League. There, they took part in a pick-
up game inside Ralph Wilson Stadium and were shown
the press conference room where Josh Pauls answered
questions as the Bills’ newest draft pick in his dream posi-
tion: punter. After seeing the game-day locker rooms, the
team caught the last few minutes of practice where they
meet the Bills players and head coach Rex Ryan.

The eighth edition of the event, the 2015 IPC Ice Sledge
Hockey World Championships features an eight-team
pool. Group A consists of Canada, Czech Republic, Japan
and Norway. The U.S. will face Germany, Italy, and Rus-
sia in Group B. Each team will play three preliminary-
round contests and the tournament will culminate with the
bronze-medal and gold-medal games on Sunday, May 3.

THIRD TIME ON HOME ICE
This is the third time the tournament is taking place in the
United States. In 2000, Salt Lake City, Utah, held the sec-
ond edition of the tournament before the event returned
eight years later in Marlborough, Massachusetts. This
years event takes place in Buffalo, New York, home of
Team USA teammates Adam Page and Paul Schaus.
UNPRECEDENTED TELEVISION COVERAGE
NBC Sports Group is streaming all 20 games from the
championship on NBC Sports Live Extra. Additionally,
NBC Sports Network televised Team USAs preliminary
round victory over Italy on Wednesday (April 29) and
Team USAs seminal victory over Norway on Friday
(May 1). Today’s game will be televised live on NBCSN.
BEST SEASON START EVER
Team USA entered World Championship play with an
undefeated 7-1-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record. The season
began in Leduc, Alberta, where the U.S. won the 2015
World Sled Hockey Challenge. Team USA then faced
Canada in Indian Trail, North Carolina, in April, where
theyswepttheThree-GameSeriesforthersttime,shut-
ting the Canadians out twice.
CAPTAIN AMERICA
Josh Sweeney is serving as captain for Team USA, while
Nikko Landeros and Josh Pauls are the alternate cap-
tains. A year ago, the trio helped Team USA capture the
gold medal at the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in So-
chi, Russia. Sweeney scored the game-winning goal to
clinch gold over host, Russia. Landeros and Pauls were
members of the U.S. squad that won gold at the 2010 Para-
lympic Winter Games in Vancouver, British Columbia.

JOHN BUCCIGROSS: SLED HOCKEY AMBASSADOR
IN USA HOCKEY/LABATT USA PARTNERSHIP
On April 24, 2015, USA Hockey announced its expanded
partnership with Labatt USA in support of a new initia-
tive that will raise $250,000 and launch 10 new adult sled
hockey programs across the United States in one year.
National sportscaster John Buccigross is an ambassador
of the program and will help support Labatt’s efforts to
raise funds for USA Hockey’s Sled Hockey Program.

Two-time Paralympic gold medalist and World Cham-

AVALANCHE CLAIM NATIONAL TITLE
Team USA players Tyler Carron and Nikko Landeros
helped the Colorado Avalanche defeat RIC Blackhawks
and fellow national team members Kevin McKee and
Brody Roybal, 4-2, to claim the 2015 Toyota-USA Hock-
ey Adult Sled Hockey National Championship at North-
town Center in Amherst, New York, on April 12. Other
U.S. National Sled Hockey Team members who competed
in the tournament included Adam Page and Paul Schaus
(Buffalo Sabres); Steve Cash, Billy Hanning, and Josh
Pauls (St. Louis Blues); Chris Douglas and Declan
Farmer (Florida Bandits); Luke McDermott (San Anto-
nio Rampage); and Josh Misiewicz (USA Warriors).
OTHER USA HOCKEY HAPPENINGS
The U.S. Men’s National Team improved to 2-0 in
preliminary-round action at the 2015 International Ice
Hockey Federation Men’s World Championship in
Ostrava and Prague, Czech Republic, with a 2-1 victory
over Norway. Team USA defeated Finland, 5-1, to open
the tournament yesterday. The tournament will conclude
on May 17 with the gold-medal game.
