What can I major in?
Students in the School of Continuing & Professional Studies (SCPS) have 7 majors to choose from: Applied Psychology,
Applied Studies, Criminal Justice, Information Technology, Management, Paralegal Studies, and Pastoral Leadership.
How much credit can I transfer?
Loyola can accept up to 64 credits from a two‐year institution for transfer, and a total of half of the major requirements.
Transfer Students must complete a minimum of 45 credits at Loyola.
Will I have any general education (Core) left?
Students completing an A.A.S. in Paralegal Studies will have 15 credit hours remaining to complete toward their Core
requirements. These students will be completing the Illinois Articulation Initiative’s General Education Core Curriculum
(IAI/GECC). The 5 courses remaining are: a Quantitative Literacy course, 2 Scientific Literacy courses, a Societal course,
and a Humanities course (either Literary or Historical Literacy).
After Core, what other requirements do I need to complete the degree?
Loyola requires transfer students to complete 6 credit hours of mission specific coursework: 1 Loyola’s Mission course,
THEO 190 or PHIL 190, and 1 Ethics Course. Wright students completing their A.A.S. in Paralegal Studies will be
transferring in 3 philosophy (PHIL) classes and will only need to complete the one class: THEO 190 or PHIL 190. Students
in SCPS must complete 3 school specific courses (9 credit hours) and can transfer up to half of the required major
credits. In total, students must complete 120 hours to earn a Bachelor’s degrees at Loyola University Chicago.
Can I earn credit in other ways? Students can earn credit for experience‐based learning for up to 4 required courses in
the major and up to 36 credits total. Through Learning Counts, students may earn credit through examination or
complete a prior learning assessment portfolio. Pursuing these non‐traditional sources of credit offer opportunities to
earn credit for professional life experiences that qualify as college‐level learning, providing substantial savings of time
and tuition.
Where are classes held? Paralegal classes are held in 2 locations: our downtown Water Tower Campus (820 N. Michigan
Ave.) and our Vernon Hills site located at the Cuneo Mansion & Gardens.
When are classes held?
SCPS offers evening, weekend, and online class options each session throughout the academic year.
